Hello,
I have a problem combining the assp SPAM proxy installation with an exchange back-up / fall-back solution and hope someone can help me.
I used to have the following situation:
I have 2 exchange email servers at different locations and different domain-names set-up so that if one falls-out the email gets directed to the other one. Pretty basic exchange setting.

I have set this up according to the following steps:
- added the MX records for both domains.
- adjusted the recipient policy on both servers.
- added SMTP connectors on both servers
This has been working fine for quite some time now.
Now when I install the ASSP SPAM proxy according to the steps described below: (stored on http://www.asspsmtp.org/wiki/Microsoft_Exchange#HOWTO:_Microsoft_Exchange_Server_2003_.2B_ASSP_on_Single_Box_using_Virtual_Servers)
Incoming Mail
Internet
  ↓
(Incoming TCP port 25 Connections)
  ↓
ASSP (Listening on 192.168.1.1 port 25)
  ↓
(Forwards the TCP port 25 Connections to 192.168.1.1 port 26)
  ↓
Exchange Default SMTP Virtual Server (Listening on 192.168.1.1 port 26)
Outgoing Mail
Outlook or SMTP client.
  ↓
Exchange Server Default SMTP Virtual Server (Smart Host = 192.168.1.1 port 125)
  ↓
(Outgoing pre-ASSP processed e-mail)
  ↓
ASSP (Relay Port = 192.168.1.1:125, Relay Host = 192.168.1.1:126
  ↓
(Outgoing post-ASSP processed e-mail)
  ↓
Exchange Server ASSP Relay Virtual Server (Listening on 192.168.1.1:126)
  ↓
Exchange Server ASSP Relay SMTP Connector (Sending e-mail out using DNS - No smart host)

In addition to these steps in the assp configuration I have filled the ISP/Secondary MX Servers on both servers as well as both domains names in the local domain field on both servers.
The SPAM proxy work fine and without problems, but now my back-up/fall-back solution doesn't work anymore!
I get the error: "550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for user@domain.com” from exchange (not assp). I have narrowed it down that this message is coming from my default SMTP virtual server.
I have done loads of reading on forums and some trial and error, but don't know what I need to change in my Exchange configuration for my back-up / fall-back solution to work again in combination with assp.

I Have been struggling with this quite some time and could really use your help!
TIA Peter
