I'm having a hard time setting up my Exchange server to relay through my secondary mail server at my hosting company. I'm doing this because my Exchange server is connected via Adelphia and I have a dynamic IP. As a result, most ISPs block my e-mail. I would like to route mail coming from my Exchange server through the mail server at my hosting company, however when I set them up as a smart host in Exchange, I get an "authentication requried" message. No matter which authentication I choose, I can't send through them.

Hi It will be your ISP. Get the username/password from them and I would configure a SMTP connector. Set the user name/password in the connector and set the address space to * Keith

Really?? How can that be? I'm trying to forward one message through another mail server. Wouldn't it be the mail server requesting authentication? I don't normally use a login/password to connect to my ISP. In fact, I don't even have a mail account set up with them, since I have my own domain. What password would I possibly use?? Now, if you're talking about my "hosting" company where I'm trying to send the mail through, that makes more sense. I've tried all the passwords I have with them, since it is their mail server. Nothing worked, though. Then again, I wasn't using an SMTP connector. The SMTP connector sounds promising, though. What is the actual purpose of it? quote:
