I have an Exchange 2003 server and a user on Outlook 2000 who is having problems deleting messages. When the message is unread and delete is clicked the message moves to the deleted files box. If the message has been read and delete is clicked, the message is hard deleted immediately. I want all messages that are deleted to go to the deleted box before permanent delete. There are no mailbox limits set up and no filters set up. Does anyone know how to stop this?

Hmm this is not the default behavior. Do you have any outook plug-ins installed? Go to Outlook tools, options, other, advanced, Com add in or add in manager? Also anything outlook related in add remove programs? Does this happen if you test in OWA?

There are no add-ins and nothing relating to Outlook in the Add/Remove programs. This happens on OWA as well as the user's workstation.

That is strange. Does the user recall doing anything to Outlook recently. The only thing I can think of is something within the mailbox process/rule is corrupt. I don't have any other suggestions. If you don't come to a solution I would delete the user's mb, then re-create a new mb for this user. Test to see if it occurs. If it doesn't then export the contents out of the original mb by associating it with a test. Then import it into your user's new MB.
