Hello.

I am working on setting up Windows SBS on our server, and am currently setting up Exchange to send outbound mail. I have it set to SMTP through our mail server(mail.company.com), and it routes fine to email addresses such as Yahoo or GMail addresses.

However, when I attempt to send anything to an employee on our mail server (employee@company.com) I get a "The email account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to" undeliverable mail error.

Is this a DNS problem, in which once the mail goes past mail.company.com, it doesn't route back, and if so, is there a way around this?
Or is it a completely different problem than a DNS error?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Is the domain registered? if you don't have a domain registered then it's the problem.

Yes, it is a registered domain.

I believe that the problem is that it goes out to the mail server and authenticates, but doesn't know to come back to our the mail server. Sorry if this seems like a slightly diluted post, but it's too early, lol.

First, verify that your MX record(s) is correct.  To do this, try using NSLookup on a computer outside your network.

Next, from that same outside computer test by establishing a telnet session to the IP address noted by your MX record and manually create/send a message stream.  What you are looking for is any non-OK responses.  That will indicate where the next phase of troubleshooting should take place.
