You need to be more specific.  Creating a Front End server is as simple as checking a single box in the Properties of the server in the System Manager.

How you use the Front End server is a different matter altogether.

One of the most common errors made with FE/BE is not having the same patch level on both servers. The frontend server must be the same or HIGHER than the backend server. This applies to version, service pack and patches. For example, you cannot have an Exchange 2003 frontend and an Exchange 2007 backend, but you can have an Exchange 2003 frontend with an Exchange 2000 backend.

Simon.

You have not yet mentioned what problem you are having with your Front End server.  As Simon said, the most common reason for problems is the versions of Exchange on the FE and BE servers.  You have not mentioned what versions you have on your two servers.

There is no configuration setting on the BE server relating to an FE.  There is only one setting (the checkbox) on the FE server that establishes it as an FE server.

Unless you are willing to discuss what you perceive as the problem, I don't think anyone will be able to help further.

If you have read the link given for FE-BE consideration, also involves on how to customize mail-flow. In the same context have you configured your SMTP Connector to have local bridgehead server as your FE Server ?

Also, if you mention your mails are going outside very slow, so does this mean the emails are sitting in Outbox ?? OR its queuing up on BE server ?? OR on FE server ??

What is the scope of the emails going outside ?? using Smart Host or DNS ??
