Hi,
Scenario is:
5 Domain controllers, 3 running Windows 2003 Enterprise, 2 running Windows 2000 advanced server. One of the 2000 AS runs ISA server 2000 & Exchange 2000 standard. All are min SP 3 (ex ISA & 2003 servers of course)
I have a new 2003 Enterprise server on which I wish to install Exchange 2003. I plan on using move mailbox to migrate all the users to the new 2003 EX server. I will then decomission the original Exchange 2000 server leaving EXCH 2003 on a Windows 20003 enterprise DC
Our software is taking time to arrive so I've decided to have a go at installing the evaulation 2003 EXCH std edition, it's not beta or anything and I plan to do a reinstall over the top when the CD arrives.
However I am experiencing the following problems and invite some advice.
During Forestprep (when settings address books up) I get a XAD 0x80071392 and I have found KB 296938, after renaming the existing exchange object in AD I tried running Forestprep again but with the same error message. However it does create a new exchange object in AD
Domain prep runs without any errors.
Setup runs and fails with "setup failed whilst installing sub component base dav protocol with error code 0x80041013. Any attempt to retry this operation fails. When I click on cancel the install completes but I can't start the Information store services.
Any advice to offer - please??
Cheers for the earlier hen Ben
Andy.

Andrew,
Check out this Article did you have the schema extended to include the INETORG kit in 2000 AD? Either way the issue is still there check it out!

Chris, Thanks for the link, I will try it at work on Monday.
What a week, our Exchange 2000 / ISA / IIS /DC died on Thursday, I have a full backup of the Exchsrvr folder. I have managed to get the OS up and running but will be re-installing exchange and ISA.
Could I copy the exchange folder to a 2003 folder, install Exchange 2003 over the top and then run disaster recovery?
Cheers,
Andy.

Well we are having fun at school! I have got ISA up and running but we are getting replication errors on the new domain controller we have purchased on which exchange 2003 is to be hosted. I am lucky in that I could get away with a new install of Exchange as most of my users use outlook / outlook express <100. But I can't get Forestprep to suceed and I am seeing impersonation errors, auto enrollment erros and dns lookup failure dsa on a particular server. Yet DNS & WINS tests succeed!.
I am about to give up and may plead with my line manager to purchase a Microsoft Incident support pack as I don't have the experience necessary to resolve our problems.
I have tested our scenario out in my lab at home and I was able to complete the transistion from 2000 to 2003 windows & exhchange without incident. Clearly there is an issue with our configuration.
I will post the results of my efforts here.
Thanks for replying
Andy.

Here is an update:
It wasn't Inetorgperson but a lingering MS Exchange system object in the AD database that was deleted using MMC ADSIedit.
Now we are getting webdav errors (logged as wmi errors in the exchange log), MS thinks it could be DSA related. I will post the results here.
Is there any free software for recovering mailboxes / mail from an intact exchange directory?
Andy
