I am setting up a new server for a relative of mine. The old has a very flaky install of SBS 2000. The current set up is 10 users logging onto the default domain "SMALLBUSINESS". Emails are pulled from the ISP via the POP connector. I would like to set up the new server using their registeredbusiness domain name "newdomainname.com". I am going to set up the new server so the all log onto "newdomainname.com", and the mail comes straight in using SMTP instead of the POP connector. Can the user accounts and mailboxes be saftley migrated from smallbusiness to a different domain? Will all user rules calender tasks e.t.c be migrated also? If this is possible where do i start?

Thanks for your time

H

The only way to migrate off SBS is with Microsoft SBS transition pack. It will break up SBS to DC, exchange, sql ECT... so you can treat them like stand alones or move them to other machines. In Windows 2000 a domain name change is very risky at best if you upgraded to 2003 it is much better and easier. Anyway Domain name changes are not fun but can be accomplished. Seeing that they use a POP3 I would think it much easier and cheaper to have them copy there outlook info and add it later for a much cleaner install. If you don't do a migration of some sort you will lose the user SIDs and their profile will be inaccessible. I hope this helped a little I know it is not very clear but I am writing while working on an Exchange issue of my own.
