Hi,
I started a migration of 2010 to Exchange 2016. However I was just informed that I should have installed 2013 rather than 2016. I am at the point where I'm ready to migrate mailboxes.

My question is, can I uninstall 2016 and install 2013 without an Active Directory issue?

Would the Adprep procedures for 2016 be compatible with 2013?

Is there a way to downgrade?

AD OS is 2012 not R2.

Thanks,

Unfortunately there is no way. You have already upgraded you Schema to 2016 and there's no way to downgrade it unless you restore your entire AD (not sure you want to do that!).

Thanks for your response.

Yes, A restore of AD would work, ultimately, but will the schema changes made by 2016 be ok for the 2013 install if I don't?

If so, then I could just uninstall 2016 and install 2013 without needing to restore AD and update the schema again?

With the schema already updated, other changes are also made to AD - I am not sure if you will be able to install Exchange 2013 once these changes are in place. You can definitely try and see if you can install an exchange 2013 server into the organization right now but I doubt it.
