I'm hoping someone can point me in a direction here. I've been reading all threads that look likely but haven't come on any yet that explain my issue.

I have an Exchange 2003 server using a mail gateway inbound. On one domain when we send e-mail there is a response

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject:    testing
Sent:    9/17/2007 1:14 PM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

Joe Cooldude (rockstar@ugh.com) on 9/17/2007 1:14 PM
There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server.  Please contact your system administrator.
<mymailserver.domain.com #5.5.0 smtp;550 <rockstar@ugh.com>: Recipient address rejected: No such domain at this location (rockstar@ugh.com)>

I can send e-mail to this person from my home e-mail. I know the domain exists and his e-mail works. I'm not sure if it's something on my server or DNS settings which need to be changed or if I need to talk to the mail admin at this company.

I have checked reverse DNS and it points at the right IP (though not hostname). MX record appears to be correct, etc.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Bryan

Hi ,
I am assuming that the UGH is the correct domain where you are sending mails. I tried to get the MX for this domain but not able to get it.
I tried checking on the checkdns.net and here is what I am getting
===================================================

Domain ugh.com has no MX records, but it has A record for domain. This configuration is not recommended

Domain ugh.com has only one mail-server

Checking mail server (A record for domain) 208.79.78.230 [208.79.78.230]

Error connecting to mail server 208.79.78.230 [208.79.78.230] port 25 : timed out waiting for connection

Some of your MX do not work properly
=================================================
It means that the MX doesn't seems to be working at this point.

From how long you are facing this issue. You can try going to http://checkdns.net and have a look there.

whats your connecting IP. You can try sending mail to ipconfirm@postmaster.aol.com without any subject and you will be getting your connecting IP.

This is strange. Response shows 66.153.184.27.

Not what I expected to see for Mail IP.

Seems as if it were a problem we'd see it more than just this one domain though.

If you have dynamic public Ip from your ISP that cause the issue.
Normally what happens if the Id address changes very frequesntlt then the IP can be blacklisted so make sure that you should have the static public IP address.

Your this IP is not blacklisted anywhere.
In future if you need to check t he blacklisting of the ip you can go www.dnsstuff.com and out your connecting IP in SPAM DATABASE LOOKUP box.

I have a block of IPs. They are static. I have not seen any blacklisted. I am at a loss as to why this is happening.

Thanks for the help.

Are you able to send mails to any other user on the same domain.
At the same time when you not able to send mail to that user try sending from gmail account or hotmail account and see if the mails is goinf or not, this will narrow down the issue to some extent.

I sent an e-mail to another user at that domain and it had the same response. I find the 'No such domain at this location' response odd. Especially as it works from another account.

yes, I can send e-mail from another account (personal, not work)

How would I do this? More than happy to try.

Trying >telnet mbfpc.com 25 times out. Can't connect.

I'll try from home tonight and see if it's a firewall issue.

You need to  telnet the MX record of the mbfpc.com that is ( 66.18.18.26 or 66.18.18.27).

1) Open comamnd prompt.
2) telnet 66.18.18.26 25 >> enter
3) ehlo carolinatrust.org>> enter
4) mail from: youraccount@carolinatrust.org  >> enter
5) rcpt to: recipientname@mbfpc.com >> enter
6) data >> enter
7) Type this is a test mail >> enter
8) . >> enter

Now you should see queued for delievry.
This is the normal procedure of sending mail to any domain from telnet.

That's what I thought. I'm not able to telnet to the host for mbfpc.com from home or work.

What a crazy problem I am seeing.

What happens when you try to telnet to there MX records, is there any error message do you get or it simply quits.

Is there any other users in your ORG can send mails to this domain

It seems that MBFPC ORG has blocked your IP , please try contacting them. I think this is the issue here.
