Hi there,

Currently we are about ready to upgrade from Exchange 5.5 to 2000 however we have a dilemma. Our Domain at this time is in Mixed mode and is unable to be moved to Native mode as is required according to the documentation.

Is there a way around this or can we get away without going to native mode? If we have to have a domain in native mode what are the steps for bringing in a server as a new domain within the forest as that native mode domain? Is there documented information as to configuration of the ADC in this scenario and what configuration issues/parameters are needed on the orignal domain AD and Exchange server.

Thanks.

W2k Native vs. Mixed: you only go to Native Mode when you no longer have any more NT 4.0 BDCs.

Exchange Native vs. Mixed: simlarly, you only go to Native Mode when you no longer have any more Exchange 5.5 servers, only E2k.

Just a question. If I understand correctly Windows 2000 Native and Mixed Mode have nothing to do with Exchange 2000 Native and Mixed Mode? I just want to make sure because if I change my Exchange to mixed mode I don't want to mess up my whole network.

Thank You,
Amy

You would only change E2k to Native mode when there are no more Exch 5.5 Servers in the Organization.

You CANNOT change BACK to Mixed Mode once you have changed to Native Mode. That goes for both W2k and E2k.
