ActiveSync Group Policies - 17.Jan.2012 8:25:36 AM

I am looking at trying to implement a change within my Exchange 2003 organisations mobile mail settings.
I want to be able to lock down active sync so that I can stop users that are not authorised to sync emal with their pda's/smartphones.
But, I also want the unauthorised mail users to be able to sync documents etc using activesync when connected via a cable to their pc's.
I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to stop mail but allow everything else as I have been unable to find anything online that would help.

ActiveSync can be implemented to sync to the local mailbox instead of the Exchange server.

So Exchange syncs to the mailbox, and the mailbox syncs to the PDA. As a result you should be able to disallow OMA features in the ADUC Exchange Features tab and still get local sync going. Atleast.... I think it should allow this.

What I'm wondering here is why you would want to disallow them one way, but allow them another.

I want designated users to be able to use mobile messaging only from authorised phones.
I want to be able to stop them syncing unauthorised phones with Outlook so was hoping that I could do this by locking down active sync.

Unauthorized phones in my book also get NO access through ActiveSync. But that might be me.

Personally, I agree totally but the powers that be have decreed otherwise.
I really dislike having to implement half a solution rather than doing it properly.
Thanks for the help though Neko
