Adding an Edge server - 27.Jun.2008 5:52:00 PM

My boss has decided he wants to add an Edge server to our existing Exchange 2007 server (one server with CAS, HT & MB). I have been reviewing this article: http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/planning-architecture/uncovering-exchange-2007-edge-transport-server-part1.html
and this one: http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/planning-architecture/uncovering-exchange-2007-edge-transport-server-part2.html, but I'm wondering if there are any additional considerations when adding an Edge server to a production Exchange server? Anything I should watch out for, additional reading recommendations, etc?

Thanks in advance

My first question would be why do you need one?
I have not found a compelling reason to install one to date. I can achieve everything Edge does (more in fact) for less than the additional Exchange 2007 license.

If you do decide to go ahead with it, ensure that it is Service Pack 1 and has the same updates as production, including updates, rollups etc.

Simon.

Personally, I don't think we do need one. But the boss wants one; 'nuff said.

Thanks for the input!

jamaliah - don't hijack a thread, particularly one that isn't related to your question
- post it as a new thread.

Simon.
