OK. I had a bad first exchange 2010 installation. Long story short - I deleted the first installation including Prgrams, HKEY and msexchange security group in AD. Went through trial and all kinds of errors in the second installation. Little by little i've managed to get a clean install through exchange 2010 setup. Now, while going through the steps in OWA. I noticed my user name mailbox couldn't be found. In Get -mailbox I am getting "WARNING Database is mandatory on Usermailbox" on all of the users. I'm thinking the AD is now corrupt. Any advice?

Hi, Is this the account you used in the previous install it's expected. This because the account you install Exchange will be enabled for Exchange. If this mailbox doesn't contain any content you can move the mailbox using the Exchange Management Shell: Get-Mailbox username | Set-Mailbox –Database "DatabaseName" You will get a warning but confirm it. After this has been completed you should not get the error anymore. One other thing to check is if the special mailboxes such as the discovery mailbox are still hosted in the "old" database. This can be done by running the following cmdlet: Get-Mailbox -arbitration If you get the same error run the following cmdlet: Get-Mailbox -arbitration| Set-Mailbox -arbitration –Database "DatabaseName" After fixing the issues I recommend you to run the EXBPA to check your environment. Regards, Johan

jveldh - While going through the AD - I noticed that the DiscoverySearchMailbox is disabled, FederatedEmail is disabled, and systemmailbox is disabled. I'm assuming these need to be enable. please correct me if im wrong? I've enable them... Get-Mailbox username | Set-Mailbox –Database "DatabaseName" seems to work with no errors on a test user. Now i guess I have to do this with all of the users. The EXBPA is asking for .net framework 1.1 and will not install. I already have 3.5 - this might be a stupid question ... is this wise to install? thank you for your advices .....all

Hi, Yes the discovery, federatedemail and systemmailbox must also be in the new database. If they are still in the old one some things will not work and you will get a lot of warnings/errors in the event log. About the other mailboxes, yes if you can lose the content you can continue with processing the other mailboxes. On which machine do you try to run ExBPA? You can also run it from the server. It can be found in the toolbox part of the Exchange Management Console. Regards, Johan

Thanks for the advices johan. I've enabled the mailboxes, and will wait on putting in the rest of the users until everything is working correctly. All seems to be working. Now I've noticed in the EMC system setting properties pointing to the wrong DC/GC server. which I will need to demote. I found http://www.pbbergs.com/windows/articles.htm I guess I will writeup a different post. thanks again

I've finally manage to use ExBPA from toolbox. I've done a health check scan and it is reporting "Certificate SAN Mismatch". Should I ignore this warning and wait till I get the real ssl cert? or delete the current certs and start over? I've done a permission check scan and it is reporting "MIssing Management Role Type" - The 'MyMailboxDelegation' built-in management role type is missing. Weird that is missing. Everything seems to be working. Any knowledge to this and how to resolve? Thanks for your reply

What did you do? Everything seems to be working OK. What kind of problems did you encounter?
