Howdy, I took over management of a 5.5/NT4 box for a small enterprize a few months ago. My question is about aliasing and alternate recepients. The orginization has several "catch-all" mail boxes (Suggestions@domain.com, HR@domain.com, Reservations@domain.com, Comments@domain.com, Etc.) These boxes are set up 3 different ways. I am wondering which is the best way. Scenario1: Box is created and assigned to a primary user, other users given access rights. Each user adds the email account to their Outlook client. Scenario2: Box is created and redirected to a single user by use of the Alternate Recipient feature on the Delivery Options tab. Scenaro3: No box is created. Instead a 2nd SMTP address is added on the E-Mail Address tab. (IE: John Doe has both john@domain.com and hr@domain.com). Now, I realize that when multiple users need to access the box, Scenario1 is my only option. But in the case of a single user accessing a 2nd email account which of the 2 options (Scenarios 2 & 3) is a better practice? Personally, I would tend toward Scenaro3 because it reduces administration (no box is created) and also possibly reduces the required number of seat licenses. I do realize that it would requrie some tracking since any 2nd SMTP address will not show up in the directory. You feed back is appreciated. bgc

It's all a matter of what best fits your needs. Scenario 2 is functionally almost exactly the same as 3, but has an extra mailbox (empty!) kicking around. Also, consider whether you ever need the user(s) to actually Send As the mailbox address - if so, then scenario 3 isn't helpful.
