I want to enable archiving on all my users mailboxes.

We have windows 2000 server and exhcange 2000. The users are using office xp with outlook 2002

I understand that I have to download the office resource kit but not sure where to go from there.

I know this is and exhange server forum and this is more office but i thought someone in here could point me into the right direction.

Thanks.

You don`t need the res kit.
All you need is set up an Archiving mailbox (with no limits set).
Then configure the properties of the Mailbox Store on General tab to 'Archive all messages sent or received by mailboxes on this server' and select your Archive mailbox.
IF you have multiple mailbox stores, then you need to configure more Archive mailboxes and setup properties for those stores as well.

Thanks for the reply...

If I need to free up some space on my mail server won't archiving it to one mailbox use up the same amount of space?

No it'll duplicate them so using twice as much space.

If you want to archive old mail you can either ask users to create some personal PSTs and migrate old mail into them to save space in their mailbox (obviously their PSTs will need need locating either on a home folder or somewhere where they can be backed up or just leave them on their PCs - which makes them not very portable).

yeah problem is i need to do it for about 200 users and don't want to really go round each machine.

I found the outlook10.adm file which lets you modify outlook settings which you can add to a policy but it only has enable auto archiving it doesn't give you the choice of there to sell it!

i've found this software: http://www.symprex.com/products/aam/

this does what i want to do but costs around £1300!!

I'd rather do it for free somehow!
