To add permissions to public folders you selct the add button in the permissions tab. this brings up the GAL for selection. now if you want to give permission to a group of users, you have to email enable that group to get it to show in the GAL, however i want the group to be a security group NOT a distribution group, as i dont want to populate the GAL with non essential DL's. Is there any way around this?

TIA

Richard

Once i establish an email address whether on a DL or SG it populates the GAL, so i'm no better off. By having a mail enabled group control the security of a public folder means the members of the security group are visable to general users via the GAL. (which i dont want advertised) plus it populates the GAL with un-necessary clutter

you can hide it from GAL if the display in gal is your concern.

even if you try to add a  Universal Distributin group L to the public folder, it will change to a security group on its own

Yeah i know i can hide it after the event, i would have thought that as permissions are security based, not distribution based, you could assign permssions to the PF on a security group. Just my own gripe, thanks for your input anyway.

How to do it let me know please.
there are three computers which can access Mailbox-iiat but two other users cannot see that mailbox at all. This two are new members.
As I can see on one of the users who can see this mail box is located in the public folder. I right clicked this email box and went to permission and gave permission to other users but still other users cannot see that mail box though they try to open if from the file menu.

Please let me know how to go about it.

Thanking you once again

Thank you for replying.

We have Outlook express installed on all the workstations. We have client server Microsoft Exchange server 2003. Public folder is on the server and so is the Mail Box which is under the Public folder. Apart from that we have our own inboxes which is also on the server.
We want to access Mail Box which is common to other users but only two new users cannot see it.
Please let me know if there is any other informaiton required. We use NetBuei protocol.

Thank you for your reply.
