Hi.

I have Exchange Server 2007.

I have another server where I am installing Exchange Server 2007 eventually.

I want to move to this new server.

how can I back up the mailboxes and any custom configuration onto the new server?

Usually you would just move mailboxes using the Exchange GUI.
Can you explain why that's a problem?

If you needed you could use the Database Portability feature.

I won't elaborate too far at the moment because they are very different solutions and you need to explain a little more about what your infrastructure is.

Sure, I appreciate and understand that.

There is no real infrastructure. I have a test server basically - just a single test server that has Exchange Server 2007. no bells and whistles.

This all works fine but now I will be moving to a different server. Again, same infrastructure in this point but different server located elsewhere in the globe.

I just want to move the mailboxes and emails from the test server to the new server. Kind of like detach and attach

There is no multiple servers involved or anything - just a single Exchange Server no edge transport

If it's in the same AD forest then I would investigate setting up an SCR relationship to keep things up whilst you replicate. then you can activate that SCR target and throw away the original. That's relatively seamless.

Whatever the case you'll want to do some research on the Database Portability I mentioned. That's technology you can leverage for putting a store onto a different server and then telling AD that you logically moved everyone's mailbox.

Do that research and then post back here with some follow-ups.

Thanks Mark.
im no means knowledgable of Exchange at all.
ill take a look at the Database Portability.

The server I will be moving on to will be a new server and in its own domain (same domain name however)

ok so ive pretty much moved the DB over with big help from this:

http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/moving-exchange-server-2007-database-mailbox-servers.html

however when I refresh the mailboxes in Recipient configuration, the user accounts do not show up.

would I have to create those mailbox user accounts? if I do so would it not overwrite what is stored in the edb file?
