We have been using a SBS 2003 server with Exchange 2003 for about a year just fine. We moved the office and changed static IP addresses. Within a week users were reporting that their emails were not going out and I was seeing a TON of error messages in the event logs regarding undeliverable email. We have an RDNS for the site with the new IP. Clients are not getting emails and there are times that the users are not receiving any emails either.
I went to MXToolBox and found that the server was on about 10 blacklists.I went onto the sites and manually requested removal. Most are done now but we're still getting these delayed sends (and subsequent failure to send.) I don't know what else to do. I can telnet to the server on port 25 so it's not being blocked. Is there something else I can do??? I need to get this fixed ASAP.
BTW, the recipients are on Hotmail.com, GMail.com, and several @corpdom.com accounts.
How can I tell why they're not getting the emails and how can I fix this??
If you want to send me a test message to alan @ it-eye.co.uk I can check more and advise more thoroughly if you like (I will keep your details private).
Thanks, Alan, I'll take you up on that offer to check it. We're using .LOCAL inside the office. Outside the RDNS shows Domain.com. the MX is Corpmail.Domain.com. Both resolve to the same IP (does that help?) We do NOT have an SPF record on file but I'll create one following your instructions.
As soon as I can get on the server I'll send you an email (and hopefully you'll get it.) Let me know what you find.
Sorry to hear you are having problems with those Providers. Have you confirmed that your rDNS, SMTP Banner and Relay are all good? You can use our Free DNS tools at http://mxtoolbox.com. If you wanted to provide your domain or IP we could also try and troubleshoot further.
Thanks for sending along that IP, I ran it on our SMTP Diagnostics (http://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=smtp%3a173.162.199.85+) and I see that your rDNS and SMTP Banner are fine. When you send to Hotmail and AOL (other other provider that are giving you problems) do you get any bounce backs?
