Brief overview of my situation: We updated a few months ago to Exchange 2003. We left exchange 2000 installed on the old machine and continued to use it to host all of our public folders (business contacts, address books, etc). Now, we are unable to access those contacts and I need to either fix the problem, or find a way to get that information and transfer it over to Exchange 03. The error messages I see when trying to access the public folders are:

Outlook: Unable to display the folder. Network problems are preventing connection to the Microsoft Exchange computer.

ESM: The object is no longer available. Press F5 to refresh the display and then try again (ID no: 80040e19)

I should also note that I recently removed IIS (although I reinstalled it and it did not solve the problem)

Update: I noticed that for some reason the stores were not mounted and the services were stopped. After I fixed this, I got the following error message:

The operation failed due to an internal server error (ID no: c1030af2).

I can click to the Public Folder Store, and I can see the contents of each folder (public folder instances, public folders, etc.), however, whenever I try to view the properties, I get the same error message as above (failed due to internal error, c1030af2).

Did you ever find the answer to this? This sounds oh-so-familar. I upgraded our company from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003. Both servers were available, moved mailboxes to Ex2003, blah blah blah. When did the above problems all start? Did you shut down the Ex2000 server? If so, is that about when the problems started?

How to Remove the First Exchange 2000 Server

Take a peek at the above. Look through, pretend you're removing the first Exchange server and go through the steps. See if your Exchange 2000 server is hiding somewhere in your Exchange configuration. Pay special attention to anything with the words "Recipient services".

Hope that was it!
