I have Exch 2000 server SP3 in a Windows 2000 environment.
Yesterday, while cleaning up user accounts, a handful of them were "disabled" in active directory.
Upon enabling the accounts today, the users no longer have privileges to open their mailboxes. I tried opening them as "administrator" and tried manually adding full access/rights to the mailboxes...no go.
The mailboxes do not have a "red x" on them, so it seems they are still associated with their proper AD account.
What to do? z

run the cleanup agent on that mailstore and make sure that the mailbox is not orphaned. If it is still showing as connected go to the Exchange tasks on the user and delete the mailbox. Run the clean up agent again to show the mailbox as unassigned. No reattach the mailbox to its user.
Make sure that the mail store is tagged to not permanently delete mailboxes until a backup is done prior to deleting the mailbox.

Thanks!
I was leaning toward that as a solution. The cleanup does run every night, so I could always wait until tomorrow.
By the way, do you know how long the cleanup runs or rather how much resources it generally takes? I'm hesitant to run it during the day because I don't want to drag down performance or cut it off completely. We have about 1000 mailboxes on the server.
-regards, z
