Hello, I can't add an Exchange account in Outlook 2003, after the server and the user name, when I click to verify the user's name, I have an error message, Outlook can't find the user in the address list... how can I define the default address list that Outlook check when I click on the verify button ? maybe in adsiedit ? but how to ? lamk.

Is this a newly created user? You may have to wait for AD replication. If you look at Outlook on another workstation running cache mode, can you see the name in the GAL? If you look at Outlook on another workstation running in non-cache mode, can you see the name in the GAL?

I don't think that is AD replication problem.. by the way, usually how long I've to wait ? I can't look at Outlook on another workstation because there isn't any account added yet! :/ I had this problem with the first user :(

Can you log on to a workstation as that new user, open a browser and type http://yourEXCHANGEserverNAME/exchange and see what happens?

First, report on the test that de.blackman asked you to perform. It depends upon the complexity of your AD environment, but 15-20 minutes should be long enough to wait. When I asked you to check Outlook on another workstation, I meant as a different user (i.e. yourself). When you say this is the first user, does that mean this is a completely new Exchange Organization?

Ok so we know the mailboxes are created and fine. When creating the outlook profile, try entering the name of your global catalog server in place of the exchange server.

I don't know ADSIEDIT.MSC, but several persons told me to check it... do you do know how to verify it about address lists?

When you hit checkname from outlook, the client will contact a global catalog server and queries the Global Address List to determine if the user exists. So what you may want to check first of all is in Exchange system manager --> recipients -> global address lists and go to the propertries of the default GAL. Click on preview and make sure the user shows in there. If it does not, go to the user account's properties in AD users and computers, click on Exchange advanced and make sure "hide from Exchange address list" is not selected.

when I click on Preview, there are all users in the list :/ that's why I think that the default GAL is not this one... even more in Exhcnage system manager, there is only this GAL..

Have any global address lists been added or removed at any time? Assuming you have Windows 2003 support tools installed, go to start -> run and type ADSIEDIT.MSC: 1. Expand cn=configuration\cn=services and open the properties of cn=microsoft exchange 2. Look for ADDRESSBOOKROOT and GLOBALADDRESSLIST. Copy the values of these to a notepad. 3. Expand cn=configuration\cn=services\cn=microsoft exchange\cn=Yourorganizationname\cn=address list container and open the properties of cn=All address lists. Copy the DistinguishedName value to notepad and compare it to ADDRESSBOOKROOT. 4. Expand cn=configuration\cn=services\cn=microsoft exchange\cn=Yourorganizationname\cn=address list container\CN=ALL GLOBAL ADDRESS LISTS\and open the properties of CN=DEFAULT GLOBAL ADDRESS LIST. Copy the DistinguishedName value to notepad and compare it to GLOBALADDRESSLIST. These values should match.

Hiya what are the DNS settings on the machine in question? For example - Does the primary DNS suffix on the machine match the DNS name of the domain Is the machine using the correct DNS servers (e.g. the same servers that reference the AD domain and Exchange Server) When you enter in the Exchange server name - can you use the FQDN of the Exchange server (in fact can you ping it) In addtion to the other answers give the above a try. A

I had this same thing occur on a few of my users, what i found was that their permissions didn't apply correctly. Check to ssee if their permssions are inherited, go to the Active Directory users and computers, Click view and select advanced features, go to the properties page of your user, click on security, click advanced, check the 'Allow inheritable permissins from the parent to propagate box, click Apply and Ok. Now try adding the user again. Hope this helps. KG
