hi all,
i have an Exchange2K FE server in my DMZ and tho it has a mailbox store, it doesn't have any mailbox. i created an SMTP connector on it so that all incoming and outgoing internet mail will pass through it. my BE server is inside my internal network, and it contains all our company mailboxes. all outgoing internet mail has no problem. but incoming mails from the internet seem stucked in the FE Queue under <BE_Servername-Remote Delivery>. why are they not being delivered to the BE server?
kindly help.
thanks, fins

first off.. smtp connectors are not created to receive mail that are outbound only...
secondly what kind of firewall do you have... can you telnet to the BE on 25?
the FE is the bridgehead of the connector as well correct?

hello semorefred,
yes i can telnet the BE from my FE on port 25. my firewall is Checkpoint R55 and i created a policy such that my FE and BE server, as well as my AD servers can 'talk' with each other on 'Any' ports or service.
hoping for your reply soon...tnx.

ok what kind of third party apps are on the box??
also enable message tracking on both servers and send an email from teh internet...once you see it queued up on the FE server ..track the message and let me know what it says...IE the advanced queue...presubmission...categorizer...etc....
write down the whole sequence and let me know thanks.

hi, only Win2K and E2K is installed in the FE and BE servers...
i sent a new test email from the internet and here's the result in message tracking: - message submitted to advanced queueing - started submission of message to advance queue - messaged submitted to categorizer
...still it stays there and nothing is delivered in my BE inbox.
thanks, fins

hi, just an update...
i tried to restart my FE server and all the mails in the <BE_Servername-Remote Deliver> queue were delivered to my BE server after... except for those who reached their expiration.
but after a few hours, i noticed again that my queue is piling up. i restarted my FE server again, and that's the only time the messages got delivered to my BE server.
how can i correct this problem? outgoing internet mail though has no problems.
thanks, fins
