Can't install 5.5 on Win2000 - 8.Jun.2000 8:04:00 AM

I've tried everything including re-installing Win2000. 5 times it has failed in the same place. Exchange install goes OK until it gets to starting the System Attendant. Then, a Program Error appears, with the helpful message "unknown has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program." Install appears to continue, but when it reaches the part where "Setup is making sure the system is ready for intallation", it fails because the System Attendant service can't be started. The error here is "Error 2: The system cannot find the files specified". This is a completely new install, in a new domain forest/tree, new Exchange organisation. Does anyone have any ideas? Has anyone successfully installed 5.5 on Win2000? regards, Vireya

Hi I have the same error in similar circumstances. It is a new Win2000 install, but I am joining an existing site. Errors I am getting are after I try to install Service Pack 3, "System Attendant service not available" Now when I try to run the setup to reinstall I get an error that the controls are not valid for the service (system attendant)In addition, when I go into services to try and stop the system attendant i am unable to do so as all the controls are unavailable. I am also wondering if anyone has managed an install. Nick

I have installed EX 5.5 SP3 on Win2k Advanced server with SP1. Its not totally faultless as some of the exchange services do not automaticly start but once they are fired up it appears to function OK. My only serious problem is with the ADC which although appearing to function faultlessly with maximum logging enabled does not synchronise the Exchange directory with the Win2k Active directory. This is stopping me upgrading to Exchange 2000 RC2.

This is due to the fact that on a Windows 2000 Server/Adv Server, the Exchange service account MUST be a part of the Administrators group. This comes directly from MS Online Knowledge Base. I ran into the same issue, and after adding the SA account to the administrators group all was well. Good Luck,

Hi, I have the same problem. Have you solved this yet? If so, how? john quote: Originally posted by NickF: Hi I have the same error in similar circumstances.
