I hope someone in this forum will be able to help. I have user who cannot access his mailbox. When he attempts to open outlook we get the message "Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The information store could not be opened." I know the mailbox still exist and works because I can access it via OWA. Any ideas? Thanks in advance... -Lester

Hi, Please check that a e-mail account is configured this can be checked via control panel -> mail If there is a profile defined delete it and create a new one and try if it works.

Hi Lester, Thanks for choossing the MSExchange for your Queries. - If the user is able to check mails through OWA but not through Outlook, than the most likely cause is the user is hide from the global address list (GAL). You can check for this option through ADUC and going into that particular users property and than Exchange options. Uncheck the "Hide from the GAL" option.
- Another option you can look for in the user property in ADUC, is that weather Outlook is disable for that user or not.

I've deleted and recreated the user mail profile and still having the problem. -Lester

Thanks for your response. This user has the option Hide from Exchange Address Lists unchecked (I think this is the option u meant about GAL). How do I check if outlook is block as u mentioned?

Hi Lester, You had deleted and created the profile at the users end but this funtionality is with the server. As you points the users is hide from the Exchange list, you just open the AD users and computers, select the user, go to its properties and over there in exchange general, you will find that option.

Jugal, Thanks again for all the help. My user is not too happy with me right now. When you talk of removing the profile from the server, do you mean deleting the user (wouldn't this also delete his mailbox?)? -Lester

Jugal, Thanks for all your help. I got the problem fixed. The problem was in the Mailbox Rights on the user SELF. Once this was corrected we were able to login to the mailbox via outlook. -Lester
