Hi all, I want to upgrade Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2K , everything is ok except that I can't receive email from internet. I receive this error : unable to relay for test@xxx.com My server specification is : Windows NT 4.0 (PDC), Exchange 5.5 , SP4.0 and I use In-Place method for upgrade process. The exchange site name is xxx.com and when I want to upgrade it , I have to change the site name and delete the invalid character. So I just change the site display name to xxxcom and internal site name is still xxx.com. I think that the main problem is changing my site name because when I install a fresh exchange 2K with the same settings everything is ok and I can receive email from internet. I use this document : In-Place Upgrade from Microsoft Exchange 5.5 to Microsoft Exchange 2000 White Paper as a reference. Any help will be appreciated. SaNaZ

Hi,
I am assuming that you have an MX record for xxx.com pointing to your Exchange server. Do you have the xxx.com domian listed in a recipient policy? The xxx.com domian needs to be in one of the recipient policies for it to route mail for that domian. When you add the domian to the recipient policy make to add it like @xxx.com otherwise it will not work. Hope this helps Shane

Hi Shane,
I have @xxx.com in my recipient polices as primary smtp address. I test two upgrade methods (In-Place / Move Mailbox) and still I can't receive email from Internet but in fresh win2k installation & exchange 2k everything is ok.I am able to receive email from Internet. Thanks for your attention

Be sure that the "Anonymous Acces check box is CHECKED". you can check this from the following path:
System Manager >> Administrative Groups >> SiteName >> Servers >> ServerName >> Protocols >> SMTP >> Default SMTP Vitual Server >> Properties >> Access tab >> Access Control >> Authentication >> Anonymous Access (this check box should be checked)
Plz let me know whether it works or not.
