Hello,
I am trying to get our Exchange server to host our own email and I am not having much luck. I thought I had it working about 3 months ago, but because my organization wasn't ready to switch over to it I just kept it sitting, waiting to be used. Now that we are getting closer to using it I can't seem to get it working. I have made all the necessary changes with my domain register to switch our email from them to our server and I have followed the steps outlined in Mark Fugatt's article "Hosting Your Own SMTP Mail Using Exchange 2000". When I send a message to an address that is a valid address in my AD from an address external to my network (I am using a Hotmail address) it comes back as undeliverable?? I can't figure it out. I am pretty new to Exchange so I could be missing something. Can anyone help me? Suggestions of any kind are very welcome as I am getting desperate.
For background info, my server is Windows 2000 Server/SBS 2000 running Exchange 2000 Server. I have a mixture of clients split between Windows 2000 Pro and XP. All but 2 machines are running Win 2000.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Can you telnet to your server from the intranet (telnet exchangeserver 25), from the internet??
If yes try to post your domain name.

Hi Leif,
Yes I can telnet to my mail server. To make sure I am doing this right, I went to a DOS command line and typed telnet mail.domain.com 25. Is that what you wanted me to try?
Unfortunately I am not familiar with posting my domain name. Could you explain please?

I have the router ported as MArk stated in his articla and I can telnet to the exchange computer from the internet on port 25. I can't get local mail to deliver either. I think when you setit up with forwarding even you local mail has to bonce through the same connector as incomming mail. Messages sent from the internet get "server connection refused" error and when you view the smtp connector for remote delivery it says "The remote server did not respond to a connection attempt." and thats where the messages are showing. I had the mx record @ the ISP changed to our public IP address. I'm stumped.
