Fellow Message Boarders,

My client runs a Windows 2000 Exchange server with one domain setup. Recently, users from within this domain have been unable to send e-mail to users @comcast.net. When I open up the SMTP Queues within Exchange System Manager, I see a "my e-mail domain" - comcast.net (SMTP Connector - Remote) queue. Inside the queue is a message saying to enumerate the messages. Then I see the messages that are trying to get to comcast.net. The status in the details is always Retry. The e-mail addresses are correct. They are just normal size messages. Freezing/unfreezing or forcing a connection does not change anything.

I called Comcast to see if they are possibly running any programs that would block certain domains. I was told by a technician that they do not, they only have outbound filters. And he didn't have any other help to offer.

From my client's Exchange server I can ping the Comcast mail server and telnet into port 25.

What else can I do to figure out why this mail cannot send out? t seems that Comcast won't be any help? Could I just be speaking to a dumb technician at Comcast that doesn't know what he's talking about and it must be something on their end?

Thanks for all your help.

I have a similar problem. I can't send to certain domains.

Now all those mails are getting into "Messages with an unreachable destination" Queue. Why these mails get in this queue and do not return to the sender with a NDR error? What this queue means?

Thanks,
pdv-tech

Furthermore...

From my office I can telnet into the comcast.net mail server and send a manual e-mail (Microsoft article 153119). When I go to my client's site, I can telnet into port 25...but the cursor just keeps blinking. For some reason I can't type anything. Is something blocking me?

This is normal. You do not have echo turned on on the machine you are using.

Same problem here too. I can't send to MSN.COM. All mail just sits in the queue. If anyone has a solution to this please respond.

Thanks

I have the same problem. All of my messages to aol.com are "undeliverable." Normally, blocking anything coming or going to AOL would be a good thing. [Big Grin] Maybe this is a "feature!"

Seriously, I've tried several methods to correct the problem. I've tried using smtp.comcast.net as a smart host and this curbed some of the problem. Then it got worse again. I think Comcast may be blocking home based Exchange servers from sending. I receive just fine, but can't send to a number of domains.

Ok, I just got confirmation from AOL that they block all e-mail coming from home-based IP addresses (which obviously includes Exchange servers running at home). They do this to cut down on spam. Can anyone think of a work around for legit home-based companies wishing to send legit mail to clients using AOL?

Get an IP address outside of the designated "residential" IP address ranges. Do a WHOIS on your IP block and many providers specify what your particular range of addresses is for.

I have the same issues with the same domains, AOL and Comcast. Can't send to either one of them. The stupid thing is I am on Comcast too, can't send to my own domain sheesh.

Other then getting a new IP address is there anything we can do about this?

Thanks
Morris
