Here is my quandary:

A client of mine is running Exchange 5.0 on a server that is running out of space. They have an NT4 domain. I want to migrate them to W2K AD. In addition to Exchange 5.0, there are some othe rapplications that I need to migrate off the server.

Can I do a straight upgrade to Exchange 2000 from Exchange 5.0 or do I have to upgrade to Exchange 5.5 first and them Exchange 2000?

Windows 2000 w/AD is required.
Exchange 5.5 SP3 is the requirement for in-place (dead) upgrade.

You should build server (A) as a W2k Server w/Active Directory and build server (B) as E2k, install ADC connection agreement to the E5.5 server to replicate data and then "swing" the mailboxes and public folders over to the new clean E2k ( Of course after running /Domainprep and /Forestprep )
