My understanding is that an Exchange 2007 CAS (front-end) with an Exchange 2003 backend still renders the OWA2003 experience because the mailboxes are still based on 2003.

Does today's SP1 release change this reality? Does an Exchange 2007 SP1 CAS now render the OWA 2007 UI for 2003 mailboxes?!

NO... there is no way you can get all the functionality of OWA 2007 SP1 if you have a 2003 Exchange server as your mailstore

Thanks for the post. I was just hoping for the best but pretty much guessed the answer would be no.

Is there *any* improvement to the OWA UI if I upgrade my 2003 front-ends to 2007? OWA 2003 is showing its age in a big way lately and it becoming a big source of complaints. I want to help improve their experience but just don't have the time or resources to do a full 2007 upgrade right now.

Everything will have to be 2007 (CAS and MAIL) before you get the OWA 2007

You always have to transition your Exchange 2000/2003 front-end servers to Exchange 2007, before you transition any back-end mailbox/public folder servers.
