We are running windows 2000 server with Exchange 2000. We recieve plenty of emails from this one domain. We have been getting these emails for the past 6 months or so with no issues. All of a sudden, we are not getting these emails and that is a big problem for us. I have not made any changes to our network or to exchange. I am able to send emails to that domain, but when they reply we do not get them. They also are not getting any undeliverable messeges back. This issue looks like it just started around the 3rd of this year. For emails we are also using 2 domain names for our emails. Company name change. We have not used the old email domain name with this company. When they use the old email domain name, we recieve the email. When they use the new one, we do not and this is the one they have been using for 6 months plus with no issues. I have check a few things, but it does not seem to be an issue on my end. This is the only problem that we seem to have and only with them. Otherwise we are getting all our emails from anybody else just fine. We do not have any spam device. If this is my problem, how could I go about to resolve it. Sure would appreciate any help with this one. Thanks

First, turn on SMTP logging.

How to enable SMTP protocol logging in Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003

Then contact the email administrator at the other domain, no doubt they'll want to get this problem fixed too. Have them turn on SMTP logging too. Then each of you send test messages back and forth and review the logs together. Somewhere in those SMTP logs, you'll find out why things are hosed up.

Another troubleshooting step: try dropping to a command prompt and Telnet (and be sure to tell it to use port 25) to their SMTP server. Have the other administrator do the same. This works best if you do it right at your Exchange server that is, if it has a direct shot out to the internet for SMTP traffic. If it has to use a smart host, then Telnet from the smart host.

After you find and fix the problem, be sure to turn off SMTP logging. You don't want it to slowly eat up your free space on your server.
