Hi all,

I just installed Xchange 5.5 couple days ago.

I have the following setup:

. OS Server: W2k SP4
. Exchange Server: 5.5
. Internet Connection: ADSL through a router with static IP.  I've opended port 25 SMTP and 110 for POP3.
. I installed Internet Mail Server.
. I have created a new recipient with email address dawa@mydomainname.com
. I registered my domain name at enom.com
. I have the A record pointing to my Static IP address
. I have the MX record pointing to my Static IP address

When I send email from Outlook connected the Xchange server, it is able send email out to local receipients.

But when I send email from other email to dawa@mydomainname.com, outlook is not able to receive the email.

Where do I configure SMTP and POP3 port numbers?

Any help will greatly appreciated!

I find it genuinly hard to believe that people are still doing new installs of Exchange 5.5 - the software is well over 6 years old!  How on earth did you ever find the source software?  It's impossible to buy a license to run it, you have to buy a 2003 license, so why not just install 2003 and make your life oh so much easier?  5.5 support is practically nonexistant now, and will only get worse in the future.  Plus your learning curve will be for a product that everyone is despirately trying to migarte away from, so your newfound knowledge won't really benefit you personally or professionally.

I'm mystified why you are messing around with POP3 - do you have an incoming SMTP mailfeed from your ISP?  If not, you're attempting to use an enterprise email server (albeit an old one) to read pop3 mailboxes - it isn't really designed to do that, and whilst pop3 connectors for Exchange do exist, they are the cludge of the (last!) century.

zbnet,

We have developed a web application for our client who is running Exchange 5.5.  Our application will send email using exchange 5.5.  So we are just installing 5.5 on our machine to create our client environment.  Naturally, we need it working before run our test.

What do I need to do to get 5.5 up and running after it is installed?  Could you enlighten me?

Let me test my understanding: you have installed 5.5, you have installed the IMS.  You can send and receive email between mailboxes on the server fine, but you can't send into a mailbox on the server from the Internet?

Can you send from a mailbox on the server to an Internet address?

Only locally.

Not to the internet nor from the internet!

As I said in my first post, I had pointed the domain name, a-record, mx-record to my router that is the gateway to our local network.

Just a small note here, You've probably done this, but in order to pin point this one I have to ask you this:
Did you forward the port 25 from your router to the inside ip of the exchange server? Just opening the ports will not work. Also are you able to browse internet with the exchange box? Let me know, I'll try my best to help
