In Exchange 5.5 you could not use the
Administrator account as the Exchange
Admin service account.

My question is:
Can I use the Domain Administator account
from Active Directory as the Exchange administrator account in Exchange 2000. Assign the admin account when /forestprep
is run.

This is a new install of Exchange 2000.

The only requirements for the user account that you use to install Exchange 2000 is that it be in both Enterprise Admin and Schema Admin groups. I would create a specific user account (e.g. exchinstall), apply the necessary permissions and use this account for forest- and domainprep.
