Hiya from my understanding if you make use of a FES or OWA you wil need to install a CAS first in your 2000 environment also Bear in mind that a E27K CCR cluster will not allow for a CAS role to be installed on the same box - and I do not believe that Exchange 2000 or 2003 will redirect requests to a backend CCR so, you should consider a CAS in the first intance prior to installing the CCR.

Cheers
A

We will introduce the CAS and Hub roles first into the Exchange 2000 environment.  When it comes to the mailbox role, can the mailbox be clustered?  I came across this article that says: the first mailbox role introduced into a Ex2003 environment should not be clustered because of public folders database and I was wondering if this applies to Ex2000 as well?http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2006/09/12/428880.aspx

I believe that it's technically still possible with Exchange 2000 as I can't see what the difference would be with this version.  The problem will come if your CCR environment experiences a lossy failover whilst there is still a public folder database elsewhere in the environment, such as on the Exchange 2000 servers.  In this situation, the public database won't mount on the CCR environment until the logs are available from the previously active node.

Of course, one hopes that you won't experience a lossy failover during the coexistence phase.  Just make sure you migrate as fast as possible.
