Hi,

I have a question regarding adding additional Mail box under Outlook client. We are running Exchange 5.5 Sp3 in our company. It work very well until last Friday. On last Friday, our site has been bombed and rec'd more than 30,000 spam mails. It took us almost a day to clean up all the mess.

After that, we found problem with our Outlook client. Whenever users want to add "Additional Mail Box under their outlook, they got an error message of "Cannot Resolve name" . (this is under Service\Exchange Server\Advance\Add). They could add mail box before our site has been hit.

Could anyone tell me how to solve the problem.

Try setting up a new network user, 2 new mailboxes and then logon to the network as that user.

Try adding the new mailboxes under that.

If it fails, it sounds like the permissions have been screwed up on the Exchange server.
The outlook on this does not look promising.

If it works, the permissions are only affected on the existing mailboxes. If so, test a couple of mailboxes by re-selecting the Primary Windows NT account to see if it resets the permissions.

You should be able to add an additional mailbox to Outlook regardless of the permissions set on the mailboxes. If I add a mailbox to my profile but have no delegate access or permissions on that mailbox it will display in my folder list but I won't be able to open it. If your problem is simply to add the additional mailbox, I would check the inherited permissions for the recipient container in Exch-Admin. It should be set to "View only". I did not test or experienced this....just troubleshooting!

The problem is only happened on NEW USER. For the other existing user, they are o.k. We have not done any change on the Exchange Server, except we have upgrade the server pack from 2 to 3 a couple of weeks ago.

Highly appreciate if anyone can give me help on this.

The problem is only happening on New User. For those existing users, they are o.k.

We have not done any major change on he Exchange SErver. The only thing we have done is to upgrade its Service Pack from 2.0 to 3.0.

I'm having this same problem, with SP3 on exch 5.5. When I got to add a mailbox it says The name could not be resolved. The action could not be completed. I don't even get the box to add another mailbox, this happens as soon as I click add.
