Hello, fairly new to Exchange 2010, used to 2003. Had an issue where a users internet speed was dragging its feet. Ends up that a user sent a mail shot out to hundreds of addresses with a 1Mb file attached. I can see in the Exchange queue all his mails trying to send.

I have tried deleting the mail with no NDR but soem disappear and others PEND REMOVAL. These seem to just re-appear again very soon after. There is always around 900 messages in the queue.

I have renamed the removed all the files in the Data folder under the exchange install and re-created the mail.que file. (This was about 390Mb in size). When first going into Exahange I can see that all looks okay but then the same e-mails appear in the queue. These are all marked as what look like outbound mail From internal user to external contact.

The user himself is recieving delayed reports and also non deleverable due to incorrect recipient mailbox name.

Is there anything else I can do to clear these from Exchange.

Many thanks for any input,

Tom.

Do you know if it's the same 900+ email or new ones? Have a go with Microsoft Exchange Server User Monitor to see if any user still is creating abnormal traffic against your Exchange.

Using the Microsoft Exchange Server User Monitor (ExMon) tool

Not sure if they are the same e-mails or new being generated. The user now thinks he sent the mailshot to around 600-700 contacts... I will have a look at that tool tomorrow and see what I can see :)

Is there anyway to kill the resend (retry) in Exchange for the mails that are queing. I wonder if they are trying to send and even when being deleted they are just re-queing again?? I cannot see anywhere else in Exchange where they could be sitting or being submitted again from.

During this time, users are managing to send and receive external mail without issues (maybe a little slower than normal).

Just been reading a few problems on net similar to this and some people have issues with this when using GFI mail Essentials. The customer in question has GFI installed on server...not sure if that could have any bearing?? Never used GFI before ;)
