Hi all,

I'm trying to install SP1 on my exchange server, but I receive the following message:

"Setup has detected that the hotfix described in knowledge base article 831464 has not been installed. The hotfix is required for Outlook Web Access to function properly".

Well, then I try to download this hotfix and install it, but I keep getting a setup error - "the data is invalid".

Any suggestions?

Kasper

I had to also intall that hot fix. Make sure all of you window updates have been installed. I downloaded the hotfix fromhttp://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?amp;amp;displaylang=en&familyid=0BC9B5BC-A094-49BF-89A5-C8A2D32345A2&displaylang=en

Might have been you download location. Also make sure you are installing it as an admin and not through an RDP client.

Yes the HotFix is required, but it's no problem installing it through an RDP client, but bear in mind there's a big chance it requires a reboot.

IT sounds to me like your HotFix file got corrupted doing the download or something, have you tried to download and apply again?

Hi,

Yes I've tried to download it several times, also from different sources.

The strange thing is, that I get the same error with three other hotfixes:

KB828741
KB835732
KB837001

All of them report the same error "The data is invalid". I've tried to download them through Windows Update and Download Center, but I receive the same error.

Also, if you are installing on a cluster, read KB Article 867624 (This is not referred to in the Release Notes!)

It may be that the hot fix is looking for the largest drive space on which to expand, has found space on a SAN drive, and that it can't handle that connectivity

Latest: Microsoft provided the .dll, we brought the system up in safe mode, copied in the .dll and it worked.

OK...Here's the scoop. I always search newgroups for problem resolution before escalating to MS through our Esssential support agreement. Just me, I like fixing things on my own if I can. But this one I could not solve right away and I needed an answer so I logged a call. Here is what they gave me and as soon as I did this the problem was fixed. I thought I would pass this along to give my 2 cents worth back to the newsgroups.

1: Click "Start" then "Run" and type "SIGVERIF" (without the quotation marks) and then press "Enter"

2: Click "Advanced"

3: Select "Look for other files that are not digitally signed"

4: In the "Look in this folder" box hit the Browse button and go to:
"C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT"
(Edit path a necessary depending on where Windows is installed. You may need to change "Windows" to "WinNT")

5: Check Include Subfolders

6: Click OK, then click Start
You will get a window with the files that are not signed.
7: Go to the directory (C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT) and delete the files the listed in the report.
NOTE: You can open the log file, "SIGVERIF.TXT", that should be under located in "C:\WINDOWS"

8: Please Reboot the server and then install the Hotfix 831464.

Great tip P KOHAN!

If everything goes well when I test this in my lab, I will publish a MS KB article regarding this issue.

I'll post it here once it's published.

Hey,

The error message refers to a completely different issue. Which hardware are you running and are you running a customized HAL?

Cheers,
S°ren
