Hi:
I am a newbie at Exchange and had just recently tried to install Exchange 5.5 on NT4. Everything seems to work just fine except that I could not email to the outside. I can send and receive internal mail and can receive outside mails to the internal addresses. I used both Outlook and Outlook Express with the same results.
Everytime I send an email out to an external address I get a return message: "The recipient name is not recognized" and "Unknown Recipient" even though the external addresses were all valid. It seems that Exchange had never even tried to go look outside for those addresses or could not go out. I checked and the IMS service seems to be working. The port 25 also worked when I telnet to it and again can send internal mails but not external mail.
I have an MX record pointing to the Exchange server. I also have an in-addr.arpa host also in the DNS server. But, no email could find itself to the outside. I had installed all the service packs to both NT and Exchange. Can anyone suggest where I may have gone wrong? Thanks.

Sorry,
I figured it out. I checked no rerouting allowed when first installed IMS so no outbound mails was allowed. Be careful to chose rerouting allowed when installing IMS if you mails to go out.
