Hi

I am almost through with splitting my win2k3/exch2k7 all in one box to some more 2k8 servers.
I have created a new DC, created a CAS server and created a HUB/Mailbox server.
The Operation's master roles has been transfered to the new 2k8 DC. So it should be safe to demote the old.
The mailbox'es has been moved to the new mailbox server.
So as I see it, i should be able to shut down the old server.
But when I, as a test, disable the network card on the old server, I can't logon through neither webmail, Outlook anywhere or MAPI.
It's simply rejection my logon credentials.

Then when going through configuration I can see that under "Domain controller servers being used by exchange" there is only the old server listed.
But I can't change anything on that page. Which is under "Server configuration -> Some role -> select a server -> select properties for server -> select tab "System settings".

So my question; How do I change "Domain controller servers being used by exchange"?
Maybe it should be; How do I get exchange to verify to the new DC?

Have you moved the global catalog role?
Exchange will ONLY communicate with domain controllers that are global catalogs.

Simon.

Thank you for the reply

No, not really. Cause I haven't actively change it to a GC
But when I Look in "Sites and Services" -> Default-First-Site-Name -> My new DC's Properties and look in "DC Type" is says "Global Catalog".

Do you have Exchange anywhere on a domain controller?
Exchange will use the first domain controller to respond, but should list the others that are a global catalog.

Simon.

My old server is both exchange CAS and DC but no Outlook Anywhere
But the new server is only CAS, with Outlook Anywhere.

That is your problem.
When Exchange is installed on a domain controller it will ONLY use the domain controller that it is installed on. The same goes for any other Exchange servers.
Therefore you will only see that list change when you remove Exchange from it.

DO NOT DCPROMO the server as that will break Exchange and is unsupported.

Simon.

Okay... I will try to uninstall.

But can I ever never DCPROMO that server?
Or is it just as long as exchange is installed on it?

You cannot do DCPROMO while Exchange is installed on it. It is not supported to change the role of an Exchange server.

Thank you for your help.

I have uninstalled exchange from the old all in one box, an everything looks fine.
I have also demoted the new DC because something told me that it wasen't running well. So I will reinstall the server and try to promote the server again.

Now I only have a problem with Outlook Anywhere, but I will start a new thread for that. [EDIT] Got that fixed, so no need for a tread :) [/EDIT]

Thank you!
