Configuring Exchange SMTP Domains - 28.Nov.2005 6:28:23 PM

Hi,

On our Exchange server we hosted 2 domains, i.e. in the default recipient
policy we had domain1.com and domain2.com.

Some users in AD had emails user@domain1.com and some others had
user2@domain2.com .

Users of domain2.com were migrated to a different server (no connection
between AD's etc, a new mail server) and @domain2.com was deleted from the
recipient policies.

I ended up with exchange tring to route mails to domain2.com internally. The only solution i found was to remove the domains from SMTP using metaedit.

Unfortnuatly these domains re-appeared in the SMTP domains on the exchange server when i restarted ecxchange last week.

Since domain2.com is in no recipient policies i am at loss where exchange is getting this info from. Does anyone know where i can look to configure the SMTP domains for exchange, or how it creates them? Or can someone hint some good tools since with system manager i am going no where.

Stupid question, but is this only happening internally or when users from outside the domain send to the server on domain2 does it then go to domain1 exchange server?

This only happens internally.

All other mail works to the new exchange server used with domain2.com. The issue is when i try to send an email using the exchange server responsable for domain1.com (previously responsable for domain2.com as well). I get an NDR (user@domain1.com) right away when i try to send to (user2@domain2.com), because Exchange beleives that it is responsable for domain2.com and doesn't find any proxy addresses matching (user2@domain2.com)

This happens regardless if I write a mail with telnet on the Exchange server or use outlook.

Can you post some of the headers for the bounceback message that you got?
