I have a small server setup with about 10 users/mailboxes and they are all ok except for 3.  I deleted 3 of the users from Server Management and added them back with the wizard and now I have 3 duplicate copies of their mailboxes.  Im trying to figure out how to merge the 3 new mailboxes with the 3 old mailboxes.  I tried EMerge, but it didnt show the duplicate mail boxes.

I tried going into the Mailbox Recovery Center, tried Finding a Match and Resolving the conflict but under Resolving Conflict, it did not list any of the Users that I added, just the default Users.

Any tips?

I fixed one, the duplicate mailbox only had 1 message in it so I deleted the mailbox and reconnected the other mailbox to the correct user.

But I still have 2 duplicate mailboxes I want to merge.  When I try to export the information using ExMerge I get an error:

"[13:57:57] Error opening message store (MSEMS). Verify that the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service is running and that you have the correct permissions to log on. (0x8004011d)"

I checked and all the Microsoft Exchange services are running, not sure what else to check to get the merge to work.

Hiya mate, this is not uncommon - when i have found this problem I do this;

1. The mailbox that I can connect to I EXMERGE out and then delete it.
2. I then run a "Clean Up" Agent against the store (right click on the mailbox list for your database and select "Run Clean Up Agent"

3. You will see the two duplicates in the list with red X's against them, you need to "Purge" the one that you Exmerged out (that will typically be the one with the most recently accessed date).

4. The remaining mailbox I re-attach to the AD account
5. EXMERGE the mail back into the mailbox.

Hope this helps,

A

Seems simple enough, but it will not let me export either mailbox in ExMerge due to the above error.

Might seem silly but does the account that you are runngin EXMERGE under have "send as" and recieve As rights on the stores or mailboxes?

Cheers

Yes it does.  I am signed in under the Administrator account and in the Exchange management, right clicked on the Mailbox store, clicked on Properties, then Security, the Administrator has Allow on all the rights including Send as and Receive as.

Ok, can you merge data out of any other mailbox (other than the ones we are looking at)?

Cheers

Most of the we use to run exmerge for the user who is part of the Exchange domain server group and enterprise group. But here even we uncheck deny permission for sendas and receiveas for that user still we will unable to exmerge just becuase either domain server group or exchange enterprise group will have deny permission.

so you can try to create one account say it as exmerge, and give me him sendas and receiveas permission and don't add him on any group accept logon locally.

Hiya all, I can understand why people use an account that is a member of the Enterprise Admin and Domain Servers group to use EXMERGE - because it is pretty simple to setup - however the net result is an account with some pretty major rights, to perform a relativly small task.

I have a dedicated account for EXMERGE which I setup using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/292509

Cheers

Thanks for the link, went through it all and still have the same issue trying to export both the mailboxes through ExMerge.  I tried exporting one of the small mail accounts that is working but had the same problem still.

Hiya seth, delete the current EXMERGE log, then try again with an account the is working - when it fails, can you post the entire EXMERGE log?

Thanks

A
