We have 2 sites, connected with a 64k leased line.
One site has SBS/Exchange5.5 (i.e. no 'site connector' is supplied with this version).
The other site has a Full version of Exchange 5.5 running on NT 4.0 SP6.
There will be a fair amount of communication between the 2 sites, but the majority of emails will stay within site boundaries.
What is the best way to connect the 2 sites together?

Thanks in advance.

You have to find out if you can install an X.400 connector on the SBS Exchange server. If so, the connector can be seperately purchased and installed. You can then use the X.400 connector to connect the servers.

Thanks.

But according to the manual - the x400 connector is only available with the enterprise edition of Exchange!

As stated, the X400 connector can be purchased for SBS as an add on, and that is the way to go.

I just spoke to our software supplier pre sales technical (and granted they are not always 100% correct). But they said that the x400 connector for exchange5.5 standard edition (which is the only x400 connector that they sell) - will not work with SBS!
Can this be true?

I think that is correct, although I'm not certain. But I am fairly certain there is a connector for SBS.

Contact Microsoft, the horses mouth is always the best source of info. If it is a vailbale ask your supplier again, if you get the same answer change suppliers.

Spoke to MS support. They had not the faintest idea. I gave them my email address so they could get back to me and am still waiting 4 days later!

It's a sales question, not a support question.

I got a reply from them after 5 days.
It was a generic exchange help and did not answer my question. I replied to the email saying so, and still have not heard anything back. Also, it was not strictly a sales question (I'm not having a go at you here), as I asked them (in their opinion)what the best way was to connect the 2 sites together, and if I would need any extras to do it. But there you go. I wouldn't have had this much hassle with Novell/GroupWise. This must be the price of progress....

Tried a different number at Microsoft, and mentioned to the word 'purchase'. Got a call back in 10 mins saying that there was an upgrade that would upgrade the sbs version of exchange to the std version of exchange - part no. 312-01084, 262. So I'll be giving this a go....

I'm sure I could come up with some cheap rates for a trip to Belfast.
