We have 5 Exchange 2k3 Sp2 servers, 1 at each of our 5 locations.

At our main office, I have noticed that all clients in our org (even the ones at other sites) are connected to our exchange server on TCP port 1270.

When I do a netstat -b, it shows that store.exe (exchange) is the executable associated with the connection.

Can anyone tell me why all clients would be connecting to a single exchange server even when they don't have mailboxes of public folders on that server?

Also, TCP Port 1270 is for MOM traffic, which I don't think we are running.

Please advise.

If I had to make a wild guess, I would say that your clients are all connnecting the main server (which is probably the FIRST server) because that is where all of your system folders such as the Offline Address Book and Free/Busy public folder is located. Try placing replicas of these folders on the remote servers.

Port 1270 is probably the information store port. Again, just guessing, but that is probably what is happening.

I thought about the offline address book, but I have not yet checked into the free/busy folders.

How do I see if the connections are associated with either of those.

The connection would not really be associated with any specific folder, it would be a connection to the Information Store.
Without firing up a network monitoring tool, I don't know how you could definitively say that port 1270 is assigned to the information store, but you could statically map it to a port, say 5000, then reboot the server and see if the port that the remote clients are using is now port 5000.
