Is there a way to delete/quarantine emails that have foreign characters...I know this can be done in Outlook 2007, however can this be done on the server level too?

Hi,

Yes this can be done, if you have an edge server you can enable the content filtering agent on the spam tab. Here you can define phrases but also signs, for example Russian or Japanese signs.

If you don't have an edge server you need to enable the anti spam rules on your hub server. This can be done by executing the following command in Powershell:

./install-AntispamAgents.ps1

Then reopen the management console and you will have the anti-spam tab when selecting the hub server on the organization configuration level.

I was looking at the custom tab:

However I am not seeing anywhere that allows me to add Hebrew for example...
are we talking about the same screen?

What you can do is copy text from an e-mail straight into the filter. This should work I think.

Actually I was hoping to not just filter for a word, but the whole language...
no one in our office can read chinese or hebrew, so as such no need to allow
that to come in.

Filtering on a word by word basis is pretty much useless in my humble opinion...
you block "viagra" and tomorrow "v_i_a_g_r_a" comes through...and you change
it and the day after that it is "v!agra"...hard to keep up with the spammers like this.

Glenn,

Yeah that's a big issue, but if you want a real solution you should look for a 3rd party product such as:

Fortimail
Trend Micro IMSS/IMHS (the last one is a hosting solution which works pretty good)
Barracuda

What you can do for Chinese just pick a few characters that you see in most mails and add them to the content filter. I made one for the Russian language and this works OK for that.
