I am new to Exchange 2010. I am looking to design a new DAG. We have 3 datacenter sites, all with local users at each site. I want to deploy 2010 servers at each site in a singe DAG, each server having its own local active database. All sites have WAN connectivity to each other. All are in a single AD domain.

site 1:
1 server with Mailbox/Hub/CAS - DAG 1 member
1 active database for site 1
1 passive database for site 2
1 passive database for site 3

site 2:
1 server with Mailbox/Hub/CAS - DAG 1 member
1 active database for site 2
1 passive database for site 1
1 passive database for site 3

site 3:
1 server with Mailbox/Hub/CAS - DAG 1 member
1 active database for site 3
1 passive database for site 1
1 passive database for site 2

will this config give me site resiliency to sustain any single site failure?

hi mate,

in this scenario you have an uneven amount of DAG members, so you can define one of the servers as a Witness server and you will also define a witness directory. It is recommended to use one of the HT servers for this role.

How to : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd297985(v=exchg.141).aspx

The location that drops will keep the databases inactive until the activity is restored. The databases of this locations will be mounted as active in the location with the FSW.

Regards.
John

I'm a little confused, I thought I only needed a witness server if I had and EVEN amount of servers. Is this not correct?
