I'm reading some conflicting information regarding database moves between storage groups. In my Exchange 2007 SCC environment, I have First and Third Storage groups on separate disks. I want to move say db1 from the First Storage Group on disk M to the Third Storage Group on Disk L. Some posts said this could be done with the configurationonly switch. Some said no, you need to create a new db in the Third Storage group and move mailboxes. Thanks.

Both.
If you wanted to you could create a new database in the destination storage group. Then you overwrite those files with the ones from the source. Then you follow the instructions for Database Portability to rehome the mailboxes.

That said, you should only have one database in a storage group anyway so what I said is bad practice. I only said it for completeness.

So my advice to you is to do neither. One store per SG is what you should do. When you move to Exchange 2010 and beyond that is enforced so you should probably get used to it.
