Yesterday I installed a couple of the latest MS updates and also updated our virus software (Eset NOD32) and left it running an "in depth analysis".

The virus scan log shows it appears to have completed successfully (and no viruses), but this morning Exchange is down.  I tried restarting some of the services, without any joy, then took a look at the databases.  Both the Mailbox & Public Folder Stores are dismounted.

I tried remounting the Stores and got the error message: The database files in this store are corrupted.  ID no: c104173b Exchange System Manager.

I've run Disaster Recovery Analyzer and get Database Status is 'Dirty ShutDown'.


What should I do now?  Is there an 'easy' way to recover from this?

Use the ESEUTIL  tool to repair the databases.

Running Eseutil /p (or as nick named Hard repair) is always a last resort...I would never recommend running the same before even having a look at running soft recovery (eseutil /r) or trying ur luck with restore of online back up.

Hiya - Exchange Specialist is totally correct, running a /P could cause more problems than solve.
Just out of curiosity do you have the EXIFS drive (e.g. the M: drive enabled?) I am interested in what may of caused the corruption.

Error: c104173b indicates that database file is unable to mount. No doubt, Eseutil /p may help the users to bring database into consistent or mountable state. Despite these strong built in esutil repair tools, some users failed to mount the database file due to severe corruption in database items. Some users may also experience data loss issues after running these tools due to the destructive nature of these built-in utilities.
