We are not a large organisation and have just installed Exchange 2010. This is quite new to me so please go easy!

We have only a couple of BlackBerry users and for simplicity I have set up two mail contacts with their external bis addresses and have set up forwarding for the two users to the contacts while leaving mail in the exchange mailbox and this works fine.

These mail contacts show up in outlook contact lists along with all regular mailboxes even though I have checked the hide from address list box. Also if I delete one of the contacts from exchange it remains in the outlook client's contact list even if I restart the server and the workstation.

What am I doing wrong. I would like the mail contact not to be visible in outlook but if I do choose for it to be visible then for it to be removed from the outlook list when I delete the contact in Exchange.

Checking the 'Hide from the Exchange address lists' should have hidden it from Outlook and OWA. To troubleshoot that you may have to turn on diagnostic logging for OAB (Offline Address Book) generation.

Use this article for OAB troubleshooting:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dgoldman/archive/2005/07/16/how-to-troubleshoot-the-oab-generation-process.aspx

Now for the addresses already in Outlook cache, you can delete the cache file for Outlook manually by deleting the *.nk2 file. Make sure you close Outlook first.

Does that help?
