Hi, I have Exchange 2000 running on a Windows 2000 Server which is also a DC which we will call 'MAIL1'. Recently, when doing a backup with MS Windows Backup v5.0, i was receiving a message in Event Log - System Log saying that the backup was complete but errors have been found and that this backup cannot be restored. Therefore, my understanding is that i did not take a backup at all! I used the ESEUTIL and ISINTEG tools and did an offline defrag on the database to try and fix the database but the errors still kept croping out. I therefore installed a 2nd Exchange Server (MAIL2) and moved all the users' mailboxes onto it. Till now everything is working fine. Now what i want to do is delete the mailbox store for MAIL1 and recreate it, and then move all the mailboxes from MAIL2 back to MAIL1. Is this a good idea? I also still have the following mailboxes left on MAIL1: - EUQ_MAIL1
- SMTP (MAIL1-{34CEC4EC-****-****-****-************})
- System Attendant
- SystemMailbox{34CEC4EC-****-****-****-************}
Can i still delete the mailbox store with these mailboxes or do i also have to move them onto MAIL2 ? Since MAIL1 is an internet facing server and is relaying outside mails for MAIL2, if i delete MAIL1's mailbox store, will it stop relaying mail or will eveything continue normaly? Sorry for the many questions but im trying to do this process without interrupting the users. Thank you in advance for any answers given.

Can i still delete the mailbox store with these mailboxes or do i also have to move them onto MAIL2 ? Yes. You can delete the store. When you re-mount this store with a new DB these two mailboxes will be recreated. http://blogs.technet.com/evand/archive/2004/12.aspx >Since MAIL1 is an internet facing server and is relaying outside mails for >MAIL2, if i delete MAIL1's mailbox store, will it stop relaying mail or will >eveything continue normaly? Mail will prob stop since SMTP service requires a mailbox store to be mounted.

Thanks for replying so quickly. I forgot to tell you that when i tried deleting the mailbox store, i got a message saying that i could not delete the store because the store was being used by a mailbox. When i checked the 4 remaining mailboxes i found out that one of them had about 12 messages whilst the other three had 0 messages. Can it be that this mailbox is holding me from deleting the store? If yes, what can i do about it because i do not know to which user object it belongs to in AD.

Try this below, if its your system mailboxes right click it, exchange task and remove the exchange attributes then try to uninstall. Method 3: Use Active Directory Users and Computers to browse for mailboxes that are on a mailbox store loadTOCNode(2, 'resolution'); 1. Start Active Directory Users and Computers on a computer that has Exchange System Manager installed on it. 2. In Active Directory Users and Computers, click View, click to select the Advanced Features check box, and then click OK. 3. Click View, and then click Choose Columns. 4. In the Modify Columns box, click Exchange Mailbox Store in the Hidden Columns list, click Add, and then click OK to add the Exchange Mailbox Store to the Displayed Columns list. An Exchange Mailbox Store column appears in Active Directory Users and Computers that shows the mailbox store that a user has a mailbox on. 5. When you have identified which users have mailboxes on this store, you can use Active Directory Users and Computers either to move the mailboxes to a different store or to delete the user's mailbox.
