Hello!

I am trying to execute DOMAINPREP (Exchange 2000) on a domain tree DC
(Windows 2000 Server Mixed Mode) but got this error:

The component "Microsoft Exchange Domain Preparation" cannot be assigned the
action "DomainPrep" because: -Setup has encountered an error while trying to
contact the Windows Active Directory. The error was: -Failed to contact the
Schema Master server for this Active Directory forest.

The forest is a Windows Server 2003 Native Mode, which already has an
Exchange Server 2000. So, we are trying to run DOMAINPREP in a domain-tree
of this forest.

We already have checked DNS issues, and it is OK.

Thanks for your help.

Firstly you have never mentioned that have you run forestprep ?

You need to run forestprep before running the domainprep always.

Secondly, if you are having problems with regards schema master.

Run a command netdom query fsmo on a DC (which has support tools installed)

Check that the DC which has Schema master role is up and running,

Do get back and il see how can i help you further
