Spent several days so far with MTM support and now Microsoft support in an attempt to Transition to Exchange 2007.  We have actually run the setup 27 times since Monday and 14 uninstalls.    For some reason Microsoft couldn't even get the /t switch to work so my Exchange executeables and support files are on my C drive with the transaction logs and storage groups on the proper drives.  Whatever it takes right.

My existing Exchange 2000 server resides on a Windows 2000 DC.  I have lost track of all the registry and Active Directory edits that had to made/changed just to get Exchange 2007 to install in my new 2003 Domain (on a separate DC of course)

My hopefully last problem is I cannot move mailboxes.  I get an error showing Exchange 2007 still believes my DC is Windows 2000 (This is the reason Microsoft ran the install from the command line).  However Microsoft verified the new 2003 DC houses all 4 FSMO's and GC.  I am so tired of being at work till 11:00PM.  So my task tomorrow is do Demote my Win2000/Exch2000 DC, reboot and hope my Exchange 2000 Server properly recognizes the Windows 2003 DC that has taken control.

I am praying becuase I am getting so tired!!

Do yall think we will be successful?

Now for an update:

Demoted Windows/Exch2000 Server and changed DNS server IP addresses and walla!!!  Exchange 2007 Installed without a hitch and I was able to begin moving mailboxes.  Mail only worked on the Exchange 2000 server.  So only those unmigrated users could send and receive E-mail to each other and the web.  However, the 2007 users could send/receive to only each other and not the Internet.

Migrated all users and attempted to setup the Hub Transport to the net and it just would not work.  Called Microsoft, stayed on hold for 5 hours, as of 1:30am, all is well....except my own Outlook will not connect to the server, but the others I tested worked, so I left and went to sleep.

The Microsoft tech was filled with knowledge, but so slow in everything he did.  I mean turtle slow.  18 hours at work dealing with a slow tech is nerve racking.  But he did solve my problem and I learned alot.

Last thing I had to do was replicate my Exchange 2000 Public Folders.  Forgot the HTTP service controls this and I had it disabled.  So at about 1:30am I started HTTP and was able to to create replicas for the Public Folders.

Holy cow, the GUI is basically useless.  Powershell is where it is at.  I figured I would jump, click some buttons and have Exchange rolling...nope.  The GUI basically simplifies basic, commonly used tasks.  Things such as my Exchange 2000 routing group connector failed and had to be rebuilt in the shell as well as other things.  What really pi$$ed me off was I can see teh routing group connector in the GUI so I thought all was well.  I wasn't until I entered the PowerShell and ran the command Get-RoutingGroupConnector that it told me the connector was corrupt.  Why should I have to go to a DOS like interface for this.  It shoul dhave been right there in the GUI when I was viewing the connector.  This was why I called MS and for some other problems.

After my nerves calm down, I may help some IT Admins near me with this migration at their office.  As of for now, forget it.  Now to buy books on the PowerShell and take some cram courses!!!!  I do not feel confident about my ability to properly manage Exchange 2007. Just glad it is working.  Now for my Blackberry server upgrade!!!!

Glad you're seeing the light of day. My 2k7 migration wasn't a picnic, but nothing like yours. I've seen a few here that have been migrating from Exch 2k that ran into serious issues. I'm glad I made the decision early on to not even bother with the 2000 part of things and build a totally new evniroment.
